MTS Sensors, a division of MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:MTSC), has updated its widely-used MH Series of magnetostrictive linear position sensors by introducing a threaded flange option. The MH5-Threaded device is a highly robust sensor optimized for mobile applications (such as crane outriggers), as well as fuel tank level measurement. The sensing device delivers high performance operation, with a ±0.1mm typical resolution, repeatability of ±0.1mm and a ±0.04% linearity (full scale). Stroke lengths of up to 2500mm are supported. The sensor rod is available in 7mm and 10mm diameters. The operational temperature range supported spans from -40°C to + 105°C.
“Our MH Series sensors are able to offer a more robust alternative to contact-based linear sensors such as potentiometers - thereby prolonging the working lifespan. They can be used for upgrading existing sensing systems without having to change the surrounding mechanical structure. They can also be easily implemented into areas that are difficult to access thanks to the screw mechanism. The design is able to withstand harsh external environments,” states Andre Best, MTS Sensors’ Product Marketing Manager for Mobile.
The proprietary Temposonics® magnetostrictive technology utilized by MH Series sensors means that these devices are not vulnerable to vibration, shock, dust and electro-magnetic interference. As a result they can be deployed in the most difficult of application settings - maintaining elevated levels of accuracy without risk of downtime or subsequent loss of productivity being witnessed.
